Beechnut Kennels is simple, spacious, and good! Our kennels are temperature controlled indoor/outdoor runs. This means your pet has a temperature controlled indoor space that is connected by a dog door to a partly sheltered and fenced in outdoor space. We are cageless and crateless! Thanks to our spacious kennels that size up to 10X12 (inside) we have very satisfied giant breed and multiple pet families who are thankful to be able to board their pets together! Remember, We also offer a $5/day discount for one pet sharing a run with other pets!
Approximate Measurements:
Inside: Outside:
Small Canines: 5 feet X 7 feet inside 5 feet X 12 feet outside
Large Canines: 7 feet X 8 feet inside 7 feet X 12 feet outside…. Or larger!
All-Day Outside Access:
Your pet has all-day access (weather permitting) to the partially sheltered outdoor portion of their run which gives them the freedom to potty, sunbathe, lay in the shade, or go inside and crawl into our hammock beds provided to each pet. This means the only times they cannot choose to go inside is when we are cleaning the interior of the kennel which is approximately a 45 min process (which we try to do when most dogs are out playing and the weather is at it’s best for the comfort of pets not participating in play time) and if the weather is extreme heat or cold (which means we open their dog doors at least once an hour for a short period to allow them the choice to go out). Also keep in mind social pets are out playing most of the day and non-social pets are being taken to an exercise yard often.
If a pet has an accident overnight, their run is also thoroughly disinfected in the morning (we don’t “tidy up”), but relatively few pets have accidents since they are well-exercised, “dog-tired”, relaxed, and potty within 20 mins of closing. We promise to make every effort to help your pet feel comfortable overnight. In fact, we document which pets have accidents and they are placed on a list to be the last to go out the following night and the first to go out in the morning. We care! A tip to the owners: avoid dropping off you pet right before closing if possible – we prefer time to comfort, exercise, and relax your pet before the kennel is closed for the evening. This will reduce the chance they have an accident also.
Hammock Cot:
Beechnut will provide each pet with a hammock-style cot that is designed with safety in mind for those that chew. We also have blankets that can be placed on the cot or on the floor if your pet prefers. You may choose to bring your own food, bedding, toys, and treats based on the needs of your pet. Please ensure you are bringing items familiar to your pet that you have already deemed “safe” for them to have unattended. We suggest beds that have a removable cover for washing or using a blanket, towel, or bath rug. We highly suggest that owners of geriatric pets bring a foam or stuffed bed to place on the cot to ensure joint comfort. We have a few on site that we do distribute, but are limited in availability.
Bedding Allowed:
Please feel free to bring washable bedding that may comfort your pet. We do not recommend your pet’s favorite bedding as it may be damaged by your pet or in the washing process. Please label your bedding. If you would like to bring a stuffed or foam beds please bring one with the removable fabric cover. We also have bedding at the kennel that can be provided to your pet if you prefer to leave your belongings at home. It is the owner’s responsibility to inform the kennel staff that your pet should not have bedding if your pet is likely to chew and ingest bedding.
Toys/Treats Allowed:
Please bring toys and treats that will not be missed if lost or damaged. Toys and treats dropped off with your pet will be given to your pet at your instruction and at your own risk. Please label your toys. Please also consider your pets safety when choosing toys and treats, for example, a pet who “woofs” down food should not be given chews that can be broken into large pieces because this would be a choking hazard. We cannot supervise each pet with a toy or chew, unless you choose to provide your pet with our one-on-one Private Session for a small fee.
Customized Feeding:
We strongly recommend that you bring your pet’s normal diet for their boarding stay because this will significantly reduce the likelihood that they will experience upset stomach or soft stool from a diet change. It is your responsibility to notify us if your pet has food allergies because we do hand-out milkbones and other treats during their stay.
- Food may be brought in any sealable and waterproof container (Tupperware, baggies, buckets, etc.). Please label your container.
- We appreciate, but do not require, the food to be pre-measured and placed in baggies.
- We recommend bringing enough for your pets stay and two extra days for unexpected emergencies.
- We do have a refrigerator to store foods that require such.
- We will feed up to three times daily in the amount requested.
- We do not recommend feeding after 5 pm to ensure pets has time to eliminate prior to evening closure.
- We do give everyone a milkbone as we check on everyone prior to closure. You may bring your own bedtime treat if you prefer or if your pet has food allergies.
If you do not bring your pets regular diet, we will provide Pedigree Dry and/or Pedigree canned food to be administered per your instructions.
Medication Needs:
We will administer prescription medications to your pet if you provide the pet’s original medication container that has the medication name, medication dosage, and veterinarian instructions. If you are administering a non-prescription medication to your pet, we will accept the medication in the original container and your written instructions for administration. We will not be responsible for any adverse effects of medication that you request be administered. Please provide two days of medication doses in the case of unexpected travel problems or accidents at the facility (dropping a pill, etc).
*Please do not place medication in pre-packaged food baggies because this does not allow us to easily document if your pet actually consumed the medication. A manager will fill a pill box for your pet so that management can visually determine if the doses have been administered.
** We will not accept responsibility for a pet that has life-sustaining medication, but we are happy to administer maintenance medications at no additional fee. We will administer insulin and other injections in certain situations at the sole discretion of the kennel manager for a small fee. Please inform our staff of any and all health conditions prior to making a reservation – regardless of whether you are treating the condition or not.
Solo Exercise Sessions:
We will release your pet into a chain-link fenced play yard at your own risk. This option is for pets that do not enjoy socializing with other pets or if the owner prefers the pet not play with other pets. We always honor the client’s preference. Our kennels are attached to yards where each pet has time to run, roam, sniff, and potty at least three times per day. . It is your responsibility to notify us if you do not want your pet left unattended in a yard for approximately 10-15 minutes. If your pet has ever escaped ANY enclosure, we require that you discuss this with us in advance. Supervised and alternative exercise sessions are available to ensure your pets safety.
Social Playtime/Daycare Activities:
If our pet is considered “Social”, your pet will be given access to up to 7 hours of play between 6AM and 7PM We will observe your pet with other neutral tempered dogs to determine if your pet’s behaviors are appropriate and safe for play time. We diligently create different play groups to accommodate individual personalities, energy levels, and size. Our staff play ball, play tug, walk the perimeter, sit on the couch to give rubs, and play with dogs that are in the energetic play group. We also have a geriatric/calm group for those that just want to mingle and sniff around.
We include and remove pets from playtime throughout the day based on each pets individual energy level, play tolerance, health conditions, behavior, weather, etc. We exhaustively try to ensure that each pet gets the right amount of exercise and rest. If we ever error, it is more likely in that your pet receives too much exercise because they were so stimulated by the environment that they did not give us signs of fatigue. Please keep in mind that all pets are likely to go home tired and snooze away hours. Just like us, if they are not used to exercising their muscles, joints, and energy level will feel the difference after using them so much – but trust me – they would tell you it is worth it! If only we all felt that way about exercise ;) Be sure to contact us after taking your pet home if you feel their exercise time should be adjusted during their next stay –sometimes their enthusiasm to party with their friends masks symptoms of over-exercise that you may be able to witness once they are home and calm. Thank you for your help in making your pets stay the best it can be. We always rely on owner feedback to improve our individualized plan for your pet.
Please be aware that pets must not be aggressively toy possessive or aggressively dominant to participate in social play. We have a very low tolerance of any dominant or inappropriate behavior. Although, it should be known that despite careful screening of pets in the play group, just as with kids, sometimes they play hard and get hurt. Scratches, sprains, and “arguments” can happen. Please understand that allowing your pet to play at Beechnut is a decision you make at your own risk. All owners are responsible for any medical needs of their own pet and should not expect Beechnut or another pet owner to be responsible. So just like there are risks when you go and participate in activities like waterskiing or basketball – there are also risks to let your pet play. We promise to make the best judgements we can to keep your pet safe so they can enjoy their pals at Beechnut without any incidents. Thank you for your understanding and careful thought. Please ask us any questions you may have before consenting to participate.
